THREAT BY JAPAN. TO SEIZE SHANGHAI. (United Press Association. —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) SHANGHAI, January 22. With the arrival of a Japanese licet from Kure, at Shanghai to-morrow, the largest aggregation of war vessels ot any one Power will he assembled at Shanghai. The Japanese force will then consist of three cruisers, one air cralt carrier, a flotilla of destroyers, and two gunboats. There are at present, nine hundred Japanese marines ashore at Shanghai, while nine hundred more inraines are arriving. The theory is now advanced that the Japanese may eventually decide to take over the whole city of Shanghai, when the British and American portions of the Shanghai Defence Force ma.v he in an unequivocal position.
