BIG RIVER MINE

MEETING OF SHAREHOLDERS,

GREYMOUTH, January 22,

A well-attended meeting of West Coast shareholders of the Big River uold Mines Limited was held in Mr M. J. Fogarty’s office last evening, Mr A. Behan presiding. Mr T. H. "ee addressed the meeting and explained that the AVellington shareholders were making endeavours to have the head office shifted from Reefton. to Wellington. Mr Lee pointed out that in the South Island the share holdings were five times greater than those in the North Island, including 83,600 on the M 7 est Coast, 58,400 in Otago, and 56,350 in Canterbury, as compared with a total for the North Island of 70,275. He stated that the new manager, Mr Lake, had taken control at the mine, where all the surface plant, including the winding gear, was being re-con-clitioned, and put in order for the earliest possible resumption of operations.

After discussion the following resolutions were passed: (1) That this meeting of the 'West Coast shareholders in the Big River Gold Mines Limited, regrets to learn that an attempt is being made to"remove the management of the Company from Reefton to Wellington, notwithstanding; tli,rrt hitherto the mine Ins been most .successfully managed at Reefton for the oast 40 years; and this meeting is of opinion that it is contrary to the best interests of the Company to have the’mine manager elsewhere than close to the scene of operations at the mine. (2) That .stops he taken to secure the support of all the South Island shareholders (who hold five-sixths of the shares in the Company) to retain the Registered Office and Management at Reefton, as authorised in the prospectus under which the Company wa.s promoted.
