Working against hope, rescuers at Karsten colliery were astounded tonight to hear a faint answering to their tappings. Then a voice was heard announcing that seven entombed men were alive. These were extricated after feverish tunnelling, The rescuers are endeavouring to penetrate the second wall of fallen rock, behind which, the remaining seven men are imprisoned, but they are not expected to he alive.
