CHARGE OF RECEIVING

CARPENTER SENT TO GAOL. BLENHEIM, January 7. A sentence of six months’ imprisonment with hard labour awaited Francis Thomas Kennedy, a carpenter, aged thirty-nine, of Blenheim, when ha appealed in 'the Police Court this morning, before Justices, to answer three charges. In tin first instance, he was alleged to have committed the theft on November 7 of a quantity of clothing from the Farmers’ Co-op. at Blenheim ol a total value of £l6 4d. 1 lie list ot articles sounded like the stock sheet oi a soft-goods store, and included a rug, nil overcoat, a suit of clothes, three 'pairs of shoes, seven pairs of sox, two shirts and singlets, a hat and a cap, a tie, a pair of braces and a btdroom clock. He was further charged with receiving the goods enumerated well knowing them to have been dishouestiX obtained. The third charge alleged that on October 6, at Port Nelson, in incurring a debt to Hans Mathias Andreseu of £5 ss, he obtained ci'tdit b\ fraud.

Kennedy pleaded not guilty L> the charge of theft, but admitted a charge of "reetiving."
