HELPED OVER THE STILE. 'Hie Wellington .Returned Sold id’s Association are responsible for lending the helping hand to many needy Diggers and their families. In this respect the activities are not confined to the members of the Association. Every needy case of ex-service nun receives care lid and discriminating consideration. During the last few months when calls on the Benevolent Fund have hem markedly heavy over 90 per cent, of those assisted were not members of .the Returned Soldiers Association. The first qualification, howeved, is that the applicant is an ex-service man. From the Benevolent Fund during the 12 months ended March 31st gist grants won- mule from various accounts ot the Wellington Returned -Soldiers Association of over £2,300. Assistance varied. Direct relief, payment of unemployment levies, payment ol rent, orders for clothing, footwear, lorn), coals and firewood and .aecoininudat'on were made. Many hundreds of Diggers and their families have received bcuclits in these directions.
