new and stronger vessels (United Press Association.—By Electric? Telegraph.—Copyright.) WASHINGTON, Jan. 3. The U.S.A. Navy Department has announced that the criticised Washington Treaty cruisers (as cabled on July Bth), will 1 radically be changed into “minature battleships” which will be “stronger that any cruisers in the world.” The Department adds that “Deutsehaland” anti-rolling tanks will also be installed b lge keels will be lengthened, the centre of gravity raised and the protection increased‘by the installation of heavier armour, particularly above the decksOther . innovations and improvement in the forthcoming vessels are also ordered, and notably an increase cf the speed of the new destroyers to 36? knots.
