WIRELESS PROGRESS

8.8. C. VENTURES, (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Dec. 29. ' The new Empire Broadcasting Station which the British Broadcasting Corporation are erecting at Daventry, will comprise two transmitters, each capable .of working on a number of wave lengths, so that the various parts of the Empire will be reached at the times suitable for local' reception. It is expected that the station will be available for use in one year’s time.

In review of the past year’s work the Broadcasting Corporation mention that their stations have transmitted for nearly sixty-eight thousand hours, and the percentage of “breakdown” time was only decimal nought three. An interesting experiment in testing the suitability for broadcasting purposes of ultra short waves will shortly be made in conjunction with Marconi’s by the corporation engineers, and a special transmitter, using waves in a six decimal five to eight metre wave-band .is being installed at Broadcasting House, the huge new headquarters, to which corporation activities lire gradually being transferred from Savoy Hill.'

The King lias approved of the reappointment of Lord Gainsford as Vice-Chairman of the British Broadcasting Corporation, and of Viscountess Snowden and Doctor Mantogue Rendull as Governors, for a period of one year. •

The King has also approved of the appointment of Mr Harold Brown to be Governor for a period of five years. Mr Brown, who takes the place vacated by Sir Gordon Nairn,e. who has retired, has a wide commercial Ufld financial experience.
