WESTLAND RACING CLUB

SECOND DAY. A VERY SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. The Westland Racing Club concluded their summer meeting yesterday under perfect weather conditions. After a. wet stormy day on Sunday, the morning broke fine and the sun shone in a cloudles sky from 11 o’clock. There was a very satisfactory attendance and again the racing was of a high class and tile various events well contested. There were good fields and the totalisator investments showed a small increase on Saturday amounting to £52473 tor the day and with £4741 on Saturday making a Total of £9,9883 for the two days as against £13,1103 for the meeting last year. The starter, Mr Reed, had considerable-difficulty with the fields, but eventually he got them away in good style. The various officials were all at their posts and the meeting passed off very smoothly, there being no incident to mar tbe pleasure of the gathering. There were a. couple of good dividends again yesterday. In the Kanieri Handicap, the winner after passing the post lost his saddle and came off, but without any injury. The Municipal Band again enlivened the proceedings with a., very •"'enjoyable programme. Results:— WOODSTOCK HACK HANDICAP. From an even start Royal Amphora took the lead and remained at the head to win easily by two lengths, third horse a, length away. Tote £432. Time, 1.19 2-5.

After a lot of trouble at the bander the field went away well, with Waraloon three lengths back. Lady Valkyrie led and then Verden. At the entrance to the straight Earthquake and Waraloon made a big bid, the former coming at the distance with a great burst of speed to win by three lengths with Black Ribbon third a length further back. Tote £659. Time 1.21 4-5. HOKITIKA HANDICAP. Of £IOO. One and a-quarter miles. 1 Royal Game 8.5 ... 1 3 Warfille 8.3 2 5 Dawn o’Day 7.0 3 Also started: Killigrew 7.4, Gold Mint 7.0. After some trouble at the start, Killigrew failed to move and did not take part in the race. Warfille led past the stand from Gold Mint, with Royal Game close rip’.
