CHAPLIN PAYS UP
SECRETARY’S REVELATIONS. LONDON, December 10. The Court of Chancery granted John ■Leng and. Co. leave to serve a short notice o'i motion for an injunction to restrain the “Sunday Express” from publishing May Shepherd’s story, entitled “Charlie’s Secretary ,Tells It AIL” The company alleged that Shepherd had contracted to give ft the copyright of the narrative of her experiences wiih film stars. Judgment for £IOO was given this weei. for May Shepherd, . who sited Charlie Chaplin for the sum for her services as a publicity agent to him while he was visiting Europe. She claimed that sK’ had arranged functions for him, and Inn apologised to the Prime Minister when Chaplin overlooked an engagement to dine with him. Chaplin consented to judgment for Shepherd in full, with costs, “Because great naryes had been mentioned and he did not want them mentioned further” During the case lively comments were made by Judge Tobin on the way' it was being conducted. .
