FEDERAL MINISTRY

MR J. A. LYONS TAKES OFFICE ON JANUARY 6. (Australian Press Association.) SYDNEY, Dec. 26. The new Federal Ministry formally, takes office on January 6. There have been two interesting departures from custom in the formation of the new Government. To save ‘Mr Scullin from making a trip to Canberra the Governor-General, Sir Isaac Isaacs, accepted his resignation bytelephone and extended the same courtesy to AH’ Lyons authorising hint by telephone to proceed with the formation of his Ministry, instead of requiring a personal interview. Forty-seven canidates lose their £25 deposits, including eight Senate candidates. All Communists, with one exception, forfeited their deposits. As a result of the counting of further votes it now seems certain that Air J. E. Fenton will win in Maribyrnong. Colonel D. C. Cameron (U.A.P.) hag now overtaken Air G. Lawson (Federal Labour) in Brisbane. Mr Hunter (Country Party) has almost caught Air Ferricks _ (Federal Labour) in the straight ’fight for Mrtrrtnoa. It is certain flow that Alt' Lftfczanni will be defeated itl Werriwa. The remaining two doubtful scats in New South Wales are Cook and Reid, where *th© Lang-Plauners, Atessis Jock Garden and Gander respectively, are- having a hard struggle The Senate count is proceeding steadily.
