The tug Roosevelt, the famous ship used by Commander Peary when he discovered the North Pole, sent an S.O.S. signal off Cape Flattery: “Shipping water in terrific seas.” The Roosevelt went out to meet the schooner Commodore, which had just won the sailing race from Honolulu to Flattery.
