CAR CONVERTED
DISCHARGED PRISONERS LAPSE (By Telegraph—Per Press Association ) WELLINGTON, December 22. Discharged from prison yesterday morning after serving a sentence of three months’ imprisonment for .stealing money from a motorbus, Lindsay Edist Edward Garner, a panel beater, aged 21 years, converted a motor-car to bis own use and he was arrested in Custom House Quay after he had been chased by constables through the City streets. When he appeared before Mr T. B. McNeil, S.M., at the Police Court this 'afternoon, lie was sent bade to gaol for a further period of three mouths.
Sub-Inspector Lopdell stated that the car was taken from the City early last night and the accused, with another man, and some girls, took it to a party at Kaiwarra. The car was reported missing and lnte at night, Constable Grant saw it going up Taranaki Street, and followed it through to Willis Street, where he saw a man and three girls get out. When he reached he ear he saw the accused sitting in the driver’s seat, and also another girl. As the constable approached, the accused started the ear; but 'the constable jumped on ‘to the running 'board, and although Garner swerved the car from side to side in. an endeavour to jerk him off, he managed to stop it, The accused then jumped out of 'he car, and ran down Ghuznee Street, into Sturdes Street, where Constable Fletcher took up the chase, and ultimately arrested him in Custom House Quay.
