WAGE CUT?

FURTHER ONE SOUGHT (By Telegraph—Per Press Association) CIJIUSHCHURCH, Dec. 18. With the object of obtaining a further reduction, beyond the ten per cent, cut, in the wages of the threshing mill hands, certain Canterbury mill owners applied to the Arbitration Court to-day for a special sitting of the Court to deal with the matter.

The application was opposed by the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Labourers’ Union.

The Conciliation Council had nr« ranged a partial agreement, but tlm parties were unable to iigroQ about certain clauses dealing with wages. The mill owners were stated to be suffering from economic and climatic disabilities.

The President of the Court, Mr 'Justice Eraser, in postponing a decision till Tuesday, said that the Court found it difficult to see why the North Canterbury mill owners should not reach some settlement, especially as an agreement had been reached in South Canterbury. He advised the workers and the employers to meet in further conference. WATERSBDER3’ PAY. NO EXEMPTION FROM CUT CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. IS. The Arbitration Court announced to-day that no orders would be made regarding the applications of the Watersidcrs Workers’ Union throughout the Dominion for exemption from the general order for a ten per cent, reduction in the award wages. A s'mil a r decision is announced in the case of the Tally Clerks’ Union’s application for exemption.
