FALSE PRETENCES
SEVERAL CHARGES PREFERRED. (By Teleyraph —Per Press A ssociation) AUCKLAND, December 17. In charges of false pretences against Arthur Grove, after the accused had been lined oil the charge of falsely representing himself to be entitled so wear certain medals, evidence was heard on charges of tlieit and false pretences. On these he was committed for trial no bail being applied for. One of the credentials which Grove used was a .testimonial from D. Blandy, ActingResident Commissioner in the New Hebrides, dated at Vila on August Bth. The document said: “In spite of having no resources, he has maintained himself by working, and he has not been a charge on the Government funds. During this time - he has been strictly honest to the point of depriving himself of necessities of life. He is a good printer, and a fair odd job man. He also has some capacity as a draughtsman. He is somewhat eccentric, but quite reasonable, if properly handled. Ho served in the Great War, and reached the Rank of Second Lieutenant.” ,
