ARMAMENT OUTLAY
■ PROPOSED CUT FOR BRITAIN. (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) LONDON, December 17. The “Daily Herald” says: SubCommittees of the Cabinet, are considering the suspension of the whole of tiio British naval shipbuilding programme. with the exception of that for submarines. The suspension will be contingent on the result of February’s Disarmament Conference, the Government hoping that this gesture will give the British delegation a strong weapon for pressing for European naval and military armament reductions.
It is understood that Air Neville Chamberlain' (Chancellor of the Exchequer), is supporting the proposal for the suspension and that lie is a iso insisting on sweeping reductions in the Admiralty and tire, War Office expenditure.
