SATISFACTORY INCREASE
USE OF SUPERPHOSPHATE WELLINGTON, Dec. 15. “A most satisfactory increase in the use of superphosphate lias resulted from the payment of the Government .subsidy,” said the Hon.D. Jones, Minister of Agriculture, to-day. “Deliveries already affected and further shipments to the end of the current month are greatly in excess of the requisitions originally received from the manufacturers for the half year, July December, 1931, while requisitions for the period, January-June, 1932, have been also substantially . increased.
Present indications are that deliveries for the current year will substantially exceed those of the year 1930-31, and will be approximately up to normal. The position, therefore must be regarded as highly s.atisfactof the Government in granting a subsidy of Us per ton, coupled with the reduction in price made by the manufacturers themselves, 'has had the - desired effect in stimulating the use of phosphatic fertilisers, which must- have a beneficial effect from the point of view of securing an optimum production.
