A sudden swerve off the bitumen surface on the Main South Road at Riccarton, followed by a skid in loose shingle at the side of the road, resulted this morning in the death of Mrs Ada Berry, who wus killed outright, when a light four 1 cylinder mv : crashed broadside into a telegraph; • pole, _ , /' The driver of the car, David Han« nnh, was picked up unconscious, anil, was conveyed to the Dunedin Hospital, Hannah and Mrs Berry left Invercargill at 6 a.m. for Dunedin, and the,.., accident occurred about 11 a.m. The car* apparently, swerved from the middle" of the road to the gravel at the side, and then skidded into the post. The unfortunate woman must have received the full force of the impact for her head was completely crushed. Hannah suffered severe head injuries. The injured man is about 30 years of age, but very little information could be gleaned about him tonight. It is understood he comes from somewhere in the North Island, and that for some time past be had been' on the West Coast. Mrs Berry was at one time a resident of Hastings.

The woman killed in the motor smash at' Riccavton, Taieri, was Mrs Ada Berry, a former resident of Hastings. Deceased, and David Hannah, thought to belong to Greymoufh, had been operating, a side-show at various South Island Shows.

The oar, a large four cylinder, crashed broadside on into a telegraph post. Hannah, after an operation to his head, showed an improvement tins morning.
