FRUIT TRADE

MARKETING BOARD’S REPORT. (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) LONDON, December 10. The Empire Marketing - Board has published a, report on its economic sections. An investigation was made of the condition, on arrival, of Australian and New Zealand apples and pears, during the years 1927-30, and the report says that surveys at the docks confirm the view that bitter pit is more extensive in early picked apples than in late picked. A marked reduction in this wastage could he effected if the harvesting of susceptible varieties were not commenced until later than is now customary. Also, in view of the immature condition of many early shipments, later picking would benefit from the viewpoint of the eating quality.
