There is now more hope of nis recovery. He took a passage on the Dutcfi Mail plane when he heard of Smith's accident at Darwin. OVERLOADING DENIED. AN INQUIRY TO BE HELD. The Dutch deny that the monoplane was overloaded, but state that it was carrying less than when ft left Alorstar. The King of Siam has ordered an inquiry.
ARRIVAL AT KARACHI. KARACHI, December 8. Kingsford Smith arrived from Allahabad at 7 o’clock last evening and landed by light flares, KINGS FORD SMITH’S PROGRESS. ALLAHABAD, December 7. Kingsford Smith was expected nt Bamrauii by 6.30 this evening, but had not arrived. Later inquiries disclosed that he had landed at Gaya at 4.30, and will arrive here to-morrow morning. WELCOME TO HINKLER. A NOTABLE GATHER LTD. ■RUGBY, December 7. Bert Hinkler -had a great reception when he arrived at Hendon from a large crowd, which included the undersecretary of air, Sir P. Sassoon, who welcomed him officially on behalf of the Government ; Sir Arthur Brown, who, with Sir John Alcock, was the first to fly the Atlantic; Flight-Lieut. Stairiforth, holder of the world’s speed record ; Miss Peggy Salaman, who with Mr Gordon Store, recently beat the London to (the Cape record in a British machine of the same type as that useu by Hinkler ; Mrs Winifred Spooner ana other leading British airmen and women.
The first to greet Hinkler was his wife.
