OBITUARY

SIR JOHN LUKE. (By Telegraph —Fer Frets Association) WELLINGTON, December 7. The death occurred late this afternoon of Sir John Luke at the age of 73 years. For many years he wais a Member of Parliament and he was Mayor of Wellington for eight years, including the war period. He was defeated for Wellington North at the ly2B general election, and stood again at the last election, although opposed by the official Coalition and Labour candidates. Under the order of his doctor he had not taken the platform during his campaign, depending upon the newspapers and pamphlets fo r making his policy known. He was formerly an iron founder, and was a. native of Cornwall. He leaves a brother, Mr C. M. Luke, ex-M.L.P., and at present the chairman of Wellington Hospital Board.
