UNEMPLOYMENT
LABOURERS’ UNION REQUEST. (By Teleyraph—Per Press^Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 7. Op behalf of the relief workers’ section of the General Labourers’ Union, Mr P. M. Butler has sent the following telegram to Messrs Forbes and Coates:—ln view of the serious situation arising in Wellington, owing to the Hospital Board not being able to meet the claims of unemployed workers and grant them relief, we -earnestly request you to call a special session of Parliament,' ’ in order to meet the situation, as the position is critical. The Chamber at 3.30 p.m. passed the National Development Bill, under which thirty millions sterling will be spent on public wroks, plus, t.eti. millions, the municipalities are finding, to absorb the unemployed- ;of whom 124,587 are registered, also half a miL lion unregistered port-time -workers.
