ROSS BOROUGH COUNCIL
The ordinary meeting of the Ross Borough Council took place on Thursday evening. Present ;—llis, Worship the Mayor (j. Murdoch, Esq.) Councillors A. Thompson, J. Thomson, K. 0. May, R. Richards, A Hedwig, J. Rea, P. •Douglas, E, Whittle and W, J. Blacklow.
The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed.
The outward correspondence was approved. INWARD CORRESPON DEWE.
From W. Detlaff complaining of nuisance caused by stock wandering at large in front of his premises at Donnellys Creek.—Received’ 1 . Resolved to notify owner of stock that proceedings •would be taken if his cattle were not ke pt off the roads. Or. J. Thomson moved and -Or; "May seconded that steps 'be taken to have the Council declared a Leasing Authority under “The Public Bodies Lease's Act, 1908.”- Carried.
From Unemployment Commissioner circular re placing unemployed in farm lands.—Received. Some discussion, took place re 2 of the unemployed being sent some mfles out in the country to work and it was resolved that in future works ,in the Borough be given preference. •
The Public Works Committee reported since' last meeting further lune rubble had been placed on Aimer Street. .Two men had been employed 4 clays each repairing track at Tot-nra for prospecting purposes, two men had been 'engaged for several days procuring lathes for tunnel, and that tunnel should be completed before next meeting of Council. Received and approved.
The Finance Committee presented accounts to tile amount of £ll2 6s 4d which were passed 1 for payment. The Treasurer reported receipts £260 3s Bd. Credit balance £313 17s lid. Considerable discussion took place ie the rate of pay for casual workers, and eventually a former resolution making l?s Gd per day the rate was rescinded, and resolutions passed making the *riite for defaulters who work out their rates Ids per day and other casuals 13s> per dav.
Further discussion took place re an objection lodged by the Mayor to an application for a water right, within the borough. Finally the Mayor's action in lodging ihe objection on .behalf of the Council was approved of.
