STURM IN ENGLISH CHANNEL. (United Press Association.—By Electric .Telegraph.—Copyright.) LONDON, December 3. The steamer Versailles, engaged on the ciAss-Channel service, encountered heavy s ! eas this morning when about 'twe.ve mifes out .from New haven Harbour. The wind rose to gale force and in the buffeting the ship’s rudder was damaged. The Versailles lias had to anchor off Steaford Head until tne wind moderates. A tug which was sent to her assistance had to fignu through a fifty miles an hour gale, and one huge wave broke over the deck, severely injuring one of the crew.

The Prime Minister announced in the House of Commons that he hoped that it would be possible to take a motion for the adjournment for the Christmas recess on Friday week.
