Commenting at Leeds pn the betrayal of a half-witted girl 'by a bachelor, Judge McCardie, who, - earlier in the week, outspokenly urged a birth-control instruction to the poor class wives, trenchantly criticised the nat on*s indifference in permitting mental defectives to propagate. He-safd, “The public must have the courage to face the question of sterilisation,' instead of aflowiug a curse to continue unabated.” He mentioned a recent case before him where a menfally-defective woman was the mother of nine similar children, four of whom were daughters, already reproducing their own kind.
