They reached Cairo on November 11th, after a leisurely sight-seeing journey of 54 days by motor car from Durban. They are the (first motorists to traverse Africa from south io north, and they claim the / trans-African crossing record for economy , their running costs totalling only £BO. Despite having an Egyptian guide, they lost themselves between Khartoum and Luxor. Their water supply became exhausted, and only the condenser saved their lives.-4 They later encountered three hundred miles of swamp between Jube and Khartoum. AVhen they became overdue, the Government sent a Camel Ccrps on an all-night search. They often encountered lions “on the veldt.
