AN INTERESTING REPORT.
BIG DECREASE TN INCOME RETURNS. MANY WEALTHY PERSONS. WASHINGTON, Dec. 1. The Department of Internal Revenue has i eport-ed that two married women and six men with incomes of more than 5,000,000 dollars a year each paid more in income tax th s year than the combined 2,613,165 earning below 5000 dollars each. The names were not revealed of the eight largest money-makers, whose total net income amounted to 122,634.419 dollars.
The report indicates that married wororc’s incomes are generally greater than those of unmarried. Fiftythree married women reported incomes of over 1,000.000 dollars, against three unmarried, none of whom had 2,000,000 dollars. Three persons earned between four and five millions, seven . earned between three and four,, twenty-one - between two and three, and 149 earned over one million, • The total returns were 52 per cent, below those of the previous .year. For the year ending June 30, 1931, the estimated amount of income tax was 2.190.000,000 dollars. Tn 1930, 2,411,000,000 dollars was collected.
