THIEVES IN PALESTINE. (United Press Association,—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) JERUSALEM, November 29. The Scriptural man who went down from Jerusalem to Jericho and fell among thieves has many modern companions in misfortune owing to highway robberies, believed to be due to escaped jail birds from Amman. At least (fifty were robbed at a lonely spot yesterday. Brigands stopped eight motor cars, and three motor buses, threatening the drivers with instant death unless they halted. Tlfey tore the rings off women’s fingers, menacing them with l-jfles and revolvers, and beat some of the male passengers with sticks. The sufferers include many prominent British residents, among whom is the daughter of the Anglican Bishop of Jerusalem, and also tourists. One American was robbed of £IOO.
