The death occurred at the Grey Hospital yesterday morning of Mrs Affie Martin, at the age of 27 years. The deceased lady is survived by her husband, Mr Frederick Martin of 21 Herbert Street, and her father, Mr Clement Knight of Napier and a brother, Mr Hector Knight of Whangarei.
There was quite a lively interest shown last evening in the address at the Princess Theatre- by the Hon. E. A. Hansom, Minister of Lands. Throughout his address Mr Ransom spoke uninterruptedly, simply speaking over the attempts of a small noisy coterie at the hack to-dnterject, and tlie flow of his address I was not interfered with, the excellent address be* ing listened to with evident appreciation by the large audience.

There are quite a number of goldmining ventures in hand in the Grey, Valley at the present time (states an exchange). At Hukawai, a sluicing con. cern is about to be floated, whilst a number of claims, including a sluicing claim, are being worked on a small scale. There are also quite a number of hopeful prospectors out seeking for payable dirt. Two well-known residents of Hukawai have successfully commenced operations with a quartz mine, on a small scale, of their own accord, and it is anticipated their hopes of it being a success will be justified.

The rowdy element who support the Labour candidate were again in evidence at the Hon. E. A. Ransom's addfess last evening, but their efforts to Interrupt proved futile while tins Minister was giving his address, They broke loose somewhat when Mr Jeffries was proposing the vote, but the latter held his ground and his reply was forcible in the extreme and he completed the moving of the resolution with vigour and full effect. Then there was some clamour and the seconder had some difficulty in being heard, but there was no doubt about the manner in which the resolution was carried an<j the hearty appreciation of the visiting Minister and his address. The rehearsal for the Swimming Club’s Dance Recital will be herd tjri s evening. The pupils have attained, a very high standard with their work. Miss Dorothy Thwaites arrived last evening and will be in town until the recital takes place, The recital will be a capital presentation and patrons are requested to watch out for the programme to be distributed and bring it along to the theatre on Thursday evening.
A seaman, who fell off ore of the steamers in Greymouth yesterday afternoon had rather an unenviable experience. At the time he was wearing heavy sea boots and a fast-running current, the result of the recent heavy rains swelling up the stream, soon bore h'ni seawards, but he was fortunate in grasping a long rope thrown out to him. He was soon hauled on board, wet a ltd cold, but otherwise, little the worse for his close call.
