The death took place at his late residence, CTonadun, yesterday of Mi* John Mitchell, a highly-respected and well-known pioneer of the Inangahua Valiev for the past 50 years. A native of Ireland, the late Mr Mitchell carried on farming 'successfully for many years. He had attained the age of 76 years. He is survived by his wife, one daughter. Miss Minnie Mitchell', and two sons, John and James, all of Cronadun.

A novel method of heckling was practised by a party of young men at a meeting addressed by 3lr J. S. Fletcher, Independent candidate for Grey Lynn. The party took a small Pomeranian dog into the theatre, and, rs they sat in a dark corner, the dog was not noticed for some time. Each time the candidate made a remark with which members of tbe party did not-agree, the dog was made to bark, and its shrill yelps quite drowned Mr Fletcher’s voice. The dog was finally located and removed by an attendant.

On another occasion the ex-official was having a Morse talk with a shortwave operator in Texas ancl chanced to observe that rain was descending in torrents.
