In the House of Lords;; Lord Elibank moved a motion expressing the opinion that, in view offtthe distress caused by the economic position, through the Empire, an Imperial Economic Conference should be held at the earliest possible moment. He urged that Britain’s first step itowar Is and Inter-Imperial argeement should be to grant the Dominions a comprehensive measure of preference which would achieve not only economic unity, hut a solution of all problems dividing the Empire. Lord Strathcond, in reply, said the Government was making the utmost efforts to make the Ottawa Cnf rence a success. No earlier date than July would suit all Dominions. Mr Thomas’s consultations with the Doin ions cVould greatly facilitate the Conference’s task. Lord Elibank’.s motion was withdrawn. RUGBY, November 26.
