Keen public interest was taken in the address of Mr H. E. Holland, Leader of the Labour Party, here tonight. The Town Hall and the Concert Chamber were packed, and a large crowd listened to. him outside. Mr Hutchison, the Mayor of Auckland, presided at the meeting. HON J. G. COATES. ' CHRISTHCHURCH, Nov. 2b. Mr Coates arrived this morning from ■Wellington, and immediately set out on a stremious tour, speaking at Akftroa, Little River and Taitnpu, in the (Lyttelton and Riecarton electorate*. ‘ This evening Mr Coates addressed a meeting in the Caledonian Hall. After their experience of the Prime Minister’s meeting, the- police took no risks, as on this occasion a strong cordon/ of was formed, they keeping the crowd twenty yards from the doors of, the HalL About ? two thousand of the people waited outside, • hearing the speech through a lou d speaker,. WELLINGTON, November 23. Mr' tm4o rcfei’^we''fco-day to ; Mr H. 4. Holland’s statement at I’gliperstojj North. Mr Forbes denied saying that he had sent a letter to Mr Ilplkhd about the formation of a National Government. He added that he had never said that, he received any communication from Mr Holland • in reply; He said he had put a question to Mr Holland direct across the table at the Inter-Party Economic Committee when he pointed out to Mr Holland that the seriousness of the financial position could only be handled by a National Government. He asked Mr Holland if his party would come into a National Government. Mr Holland replied: “Not unless such a Government would carry out our policy,” His answer to that was that J,a National Government had been formed for the purpose of dealing with the present financial crisis, and bringing down measures necessary to ensure stability in budgeting. He had pointed out to Mr Holland that there would he no question of party in a Government and it was being formed in the country’s interests. PATEA. . v HAWERA, November 26. Mf W. G. Simpson, official Labour candidate at Patea,, addressed an overflowing audience here last evening. He declared himself a supporter of ■ Labour’s policy,. in favour of planned production and marketing, a reduction of interest, derating of farm lands co-ordiAation of all forms of transport, maintenance of the present educational, pensions and hospital systems, and adequate maintenance of unemployed on relief work. He advocated control of banks, organisation of the credit system for use in benzine ■supplies, and milling and accident insurances. He received a vote of thanks and confidence. WELLINGTON NORTH. WELLINGTON. Nov. 25. Mr C. H, Chapman, Labour candidate for Wellington North, opened Mis campaign. He gave his support to the Labour policy as outlined in its manifesto, and stated that if returned to power, the Labour Party intended to. put the whole of its policy tnto cnerntion within three years. He ieoeived a vote of thanks and confidence.
