Interviewed nt his home at Arncliffe : suburbs to-night, Oswald Coulton, father if of v ßemuera -victim; said the news of | the tragic >ffair oni'y reached him this £ afternoon'. His mother was prostrated f with grief. His son never missed a t mail? ; wifh * letter. J3e was a ; particuj Jariy fright bby at school, but became ■r Ti>ionary and wanted to set the world
aflame with'his name aa a writer or an | airman. He -was always writing verse , or' little plays, but seemed to. have no f euccess. He. turned his attention to f: flying and secured a second class pilot’s certificate, but “I was.unable to finance his long flights. He possibly became despondent -and now has paid a terrible penalty for his, madcap action in New Zealand.
