Hall, who was summoned to investigate, they discovered what is thought to be the body of a man in the embers. Constable Skinner was called and found the trunk of a man with the arms, legs and head burnt off. Inquiries .indicate that the unfortunate man was a newcomer to the district, J. O. Strath, aged about 44 who came here with a mate named Brown from Hawkes Bay about three weeks ago. : Last week Strath was not in a normal state- of mind, having an inclination to religious mania, and- this may have led him. to the hail but what happened there i,s a complete mystery beyond tbe fact tbat the hall was burnt, and a. man believed to be Straith with it.
