QUEENSLAND RAILWAYS
■STRIKE POSSIBILITY. (Australian Press Association.) BRISBANE, November 24. , A general railway strike is looming in Queensland. The trouble began at Townsville, when local shunters refused to handle a truck of -Chillagoo ore because, it was loaded by nonUnioni,sts. These shunters were ■summarily dismissed, and the whole of the railwaymen in the Townsville yard then struck; but the rail services have been carried on with skeleton staffs from elewhere. A mass meeting of raiiwaymen was held at the Brisbane Trades’ Hall; and it was decided to support the Townsville men, It also was decided to demand increases in pay and the 65-hour a week io*: the men at the northern depots,
Tim Premier, Mr Moore, announced that the Government would afford fullest protection to those who remained loyal, and" suppress intimidation. He also *said that they would also probably consider the whole transport policy, which will mean severe retrenchment of the railway services, involving tile dismissal of • many ringleaders in the present trouble.
