RADIO PROGRAMME
(Supplied by the Radio Broadcasting Company of N.Z. Ltd.) FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 20th. A 'Spelling Bee' for adults, promoted by the IYA Musical and Dramatic Committee, will take place at IYA this evening. This; will be on the lines .of a previous competition which provided great interest and entertainment. The adjudicator will be Mr A. B. Chappell, M.A. Prizes of two guineas and' one guinea will be awarded. During the evening, items will be given by The Whisker Instrumental Quartet Miss Adele Taylor, (soprano) and Mr Frank Woodward (baritone). 2YA will- relay from Marton, a concert to be given by local artists assisted by 2YA artists: The Orchestrina, under the conductorship of Signor A. P. Truda, wih supply the incidental music, and items will be given by Signor Lucien Cesaroni (basso), Mrs G. Holloway (violihiste), Mrs A. P. Truda (soprano), .Messrs Saunders and Todd (mandolin duo), Mr W. J. Stevens (cornetist), Miss A. Mountfort (mezzo-soprano), Mr ten •Ashton (humour), Mrs A. Wright (piariiste) and Mr Claude Tanner (’cellist). Featured on 3YA’s programme this evening will be a lecture-recital by Mr T. Isamu Kaw,a.se on “Japanese Folk Music.” The evening’s concert will be provided by (Miss Frances fEmerton i '(soprano), Mr A. G. Thompson (baritone), Mr (Hamilton Dickson (’cellist) and the Studio Octet, under Mr Harold Beck. . * Ventriioquial humour figures on this evening’s programme at' 4YA and will be presented by Mr H. L. McEggers. Mr Noel H. North, a popular baritone, makes his reappearance after a lapse of some time and will present popular numbers. Mr Ted Heaney, an artist on the piano-accordeon, has procured a. most valuable instrument and will play it on this occasion. A popular old march, “Blaze Away," will be' played by Mr W. J. Sinton, xylophonist, in addition to “The Whistler and his Dog” and “Love’s Old Sweet Song.” Mr James A. Paterson is presenting an item of. bright humour. Mrs D. Carty and Miss Mary Somerville will sing. SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 21st. | \This will be aviation night at IYA. The evening’s concert programme, which will be appropriate to the occasion, will be interrupted to permit of the broadcast of a description: of night flying and fire-works at the Aerodrome, Mangere. At hiUe o’clock Mrs 'Hewldtt, of Tauranga, a noted aviatux, will give a talk on her experiences. The concert programme will feature excerpts from “Going Up,” sung by the. Orpheus Quartet. Incidental music will be provided by the Salon Orchestra. 2YA will relay from the Concert Chamber of the Town Hail a-concert by the Wellington Harmonic Society. The major portion- of the programme will be choral work, which will include a variety of .part .songs and choruses that have been chosen to suit all tastes. Ernest Jenner (pianist) will play “Timin'! and Variations” (by Gla./ounov). Misses Leonie ■ White ford and Edna Tankersley will sing a duet, and a .special feature of the programme will be Master Lex McDonald (boy soprano) who will be heard in “Hear My Prayer.’-’ This number will be sung with chorus by the Harmonic Society. Variety marks the programme which is to be given in 4YA Studio and broadcast also by 3YA this evening. The contributing artists will be: The Meiodists (singing choruses), Stokes’ Banjo Band (over 30 members), the Two Bing ißoys (humour in song and story), Pipe Major McMillan (Scottish airs), the Phillips ‘Sisters (novelty turns—trumpet, vocal and paino), Lester F. Moller l(humorist) and B. B. MacDonald (bass).
