WELLINGTON, November 16

The weekly statistics of the Department of Health in connection with notifiable infectious diseases now show conclusively that the comparatively nild epidemic of influenza from which few Zealand has suffered during the -,viliter is over. At the peak notifications ran up to about a hundred, ihough usually less than this total. In the 1929 outbreak the worst period showed Between 250 and 300 new eases a week.

Improvement in the recent outbreak began to be shown in September. For the week ended November 9 there was mly one new case throughout < the whole of the Dominion.

The epidemic , commenced in the Morth, Auckland experiencing it most severely. It- gradually spread southwards, but official figures showed that with this development it became gradually milder, and that the South Island escaped any widespread outbreak.

The proportion of deaths throughout was low, and' principally confined to the very young or the aged.
