RETURNED SOLDIERS ASSOCIATION

EXECUTIVE MEETING The ordinary meeting of the Executive of the above was held at the Club room, Soldiers’ Hall, at 7.30 o’clock last evening. Present: Messrs D. J. Evana -(President) R. Paterson (Hon. Secretary) r T. Stuart, Bade, Brown, Appleton and IHart. Apologies were piade for 'Messrs fMenzies and Armstrong. The minutes of the previous meeting were confirmed and the outward correspondence approved, The Secretary/reported there was a profit .accrued to the Branch ..of £ls 12s ;10d from the Military Ball held lately. The report was received with thanks and votes of thanks -passed who had contributed to the successful result. Particulars were laid on the table respecting a scheme to -supply pure bred stock for the use of returned men-on the land, who form themselves into a district club for . the-? purpose-. An allowance of £2O for unemployed soldiers was : notified from the canteen fund. The Secretary explained the allocation through local bodies supplementing the time of returned men working under No. 5 -scheme. It was decided to extend the relief also to retufiled men on No. 5 scheme in the country districts, It was stated the War Pensions’ Beard would be visiting Greymuuth in the new year. Particulars of cases to be heard should be notified to the Boaid in advance without delay.

The Wellington Branch notified the launching of a. Dominion wide Art Union on November 60, and asked i<u‘ general support. was resolved to supply native flora , as before, to be included in the New Zealand wreath to be deposited on the Cenotaph (London) next Anzac Day. The Bed Cross Society, Christchurch, notified the dispatch .of comforts for the use of ex-soldier inmates, in the mental hospital. Received with thanks., . The Secretary reported,a oredit balance of £llO, with liabilities (and contingent liabilities to the ,31st- December) of £lo6.—Received. ;' • ,' The Executive discussed-the advisability of enlarging the annexe at the rear if the hall, but consideration ■ was deferred ■ for a year.; Meantime .it . was resolved to improve.the existing annexe a* a small cost for the benefit of - users.
