WELLINGTON, November 16. Men who have' recently been thrown out of work by the stopping of the various railway lines under construction, are being steadily absorbed in other occupations. Under the direction of the Publip Works Department, fifty workers from the South Island Main Trunk, mainly married men, aie already working ott the Latider-Om-'t-kau irrigation scheinb- hi Cfefitfal Ofago’, it is*' expected three hundred mdh will shortly be employed on this Quarter, Other hied nfe being given road construction and developmental work, . An endeavour is being made to keep men in the districts, where their homes are situated. Many men are still engaged in clearing up the railway works. A few will probably be left there purely for maintenance purposes.
