HOKITIKA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

MONTHLY MEETING HELD. The. Committee, of the Hokitika Distinct High School hiet last .evening I when the Chairman (Mr Armstrong) presided. There were also present I Messrs Sv. eney , MoDougaill, G hostelman, Richards, Conning, Shannon and Breeze and the Rector (Mr Menzies). It was reported that tlie volley boaid had been erected, and that arrangeraont had teen mads to provide dental treatment* at Woodstock. A donation of £3 to the dime was. receiv.il from Mr F. W. Selby. Ti was decided to write thanking i Selby for his action. 'Tlie Canterbury Education Boaid Wise d that the Board had been unable to obtain, the approval ot tne Director to the employment ..of an additional assistant at the School.—Received.

REPORTS. The Rector’s report on the working of the School for the period ended BOth. October, 1931, stated:—Attendance, Secondary : —No. on roll at date of last report, 53 boys, 47 g?il l s, total 100; No. withdrawn., 3 girls; Present roll number, 53 hoys, 44 girls, total 97; Average attendance for the period, 48.5 hoys, 42 girls, total 90.5. primary:—No. on roll at date of last report, 174 boys, 160 girls, total 334; No. admitted since, 8 hoys, 2 girls, total 10; No. /withdrawn, 2 girls, total 7; Present roll number, 177 hoys, 160 girls, total 337; Average attendance for the period, 165.8 boys. 152.1 girls, total 317.9. Staff.:. Miss Reid , has been obliged to 'take a month’s leave of absence for health reasons, her place being held temporarily by Miss Penlington.

School Fair: It has been decided o n account of pressure of work at this time to hold the school fair over until early in the first term of next year. Improvements: Wire protections have been erected round the windows of the new class room, and those of the Dental Clinic. Depressions ,in ashphalt path, leading from tile main entrance have been, filled in. The volley hoard and court have been com. pletcd and will be available in a day or two.

Nurse. James, for the dental clinic, reported that the Hokitika, Convent Humphreys, Kanieri and Woodstock schools had been dealt with during the. month. Sixteen new patients had been treated and 35 re-examined. The total attendances for the month were 166 and the number of operations '604. It was reported that the Ground Account showed a credit of £32, and the General Account a credit of £65. The Chairman said that he and the Rector, had considered the matter of the fair, and they had considered it to be more advisable to hold it in March,, owing to the ..pressure of work. The Visiting Committee reported conditions at the School to-be satisfactory and suggested a few minor works that might he done.
