For the Canterbury Jockey Club's Metropolitan meeting on the fourth day, the weather was fine, the course in fast order, and the attendance good. The tote investments were £37,126, against £46,149! last year, and the total for the meeting £109,888!, compared with £100,517 last year. JOCKEY THROWS RACE AWAY. HAMILTON, November 14. < W. Rennie was fined £lO for gross carelessness in riding Ruffles' in the Waimai Hurdles. The stewards told Rennie that ,he had the race won to simply give it away. When near the finishing post, Rennie eased his mount up perceptibly. WHO OWNS CROUPIER? CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 14. An unusual incident occurred at Ricoarton racecourse this afternoon after the Stead Gold Cup. When the horses were' led out of the bird-cage towards the horse-boxes, a man stepped out to Croupier (which a boy was leading), took hold of his head, removed the bridle, and put on another from his own pocket. The boy leading Croupier protested, and tried to keep his hold of the horse. Mr J. J. Corry arrived before the horse was led oulfc of the gate. Mr Corry requested the gatekeeper not to let the horse be taken out, hut Police-Inspector Cameron directed rth© gatekeeper to let the man take the horse out, as he had authority from the owners. He advised Mr Corry not to'interfere. Mr Corry said: “I am the owner.” “If that is the. case,” said Inspector Cameron, “You will be able to settle it elsewhere.” Mr Corry repeated that he was the owner, and he was then informed that the Court would settle that. Later the horse was led away through the gate, followed by two policemen. A.J.C. RACES. SYDNEY, November 13. The Australian Jockey Clubs November meeting was held at Randwick.
