WESTLAND ELECTORATE

ME GREENSIUDE’S CANDIDATURE. MEETING. AT HOKITIKA. A hurriedly called meeting was held at the County Chambers this morning at 11 o’clock by supporters of Mr J. W. Greenslade (Coalition candidate for Westland). There was a very representative gathering of electors present, .in spite of the short notice given. Mr J. J. Mclntosh was voted to the chair, and apologies were made for several gentlemen unable to be_ present. Mr, Greenslade briefly addressed those present outlining his reasons for agreeing to become a candidate and his line of programme and shortly stated his views and aims. His brief address was received with pleasure and approval. A number of routine matters were discussed at some length in regard to the carrying on of the campaign in the interests of the candidate.

It was resolved to hold a public meeting of all supporters in the Town Hall, Hokitika, to-morrow (Friday) night at 8.15 o’clock for the purpose of electing a committee and arranging the election campaign. Ladies to be specially invited to attend. It wa-s announced that Mr Greenslade was forming a Central Committee at Greymonth to-niglit, and that he would then conuneuee a tour of the Westland portion of the constituency visiting Kokatahi Valley tomorrow (Friday) speaking at Koiterangi at 7.39 p.m. and at Kokatahi at 8.30 p.m. On Saturday he will visit South Hokitika, the dredge, Arthurstown, Ruatapu, Ross Road and Totara and speak at the Totara Hall, Ross, that night at 8 o’clock. Very satisfactory expressions of -suppm-t for the candidate were" ; received tli© meeting being a very 'harmonious and pleasing one.
