BLAKEWAY MURDER
DECEASED'S FIANCEE. RELATES ACCUSED’S ATTITUDE. (By Telegraph—Per Press AssociationJ PALMERSTON N., November 11. Giving evidence in the Beeke murder case, Betty Nora Meehan, aged 19 years, said she had known Decke for 18 months. She first met Blakeway when he was stationed in Longburn. They walked out together, and in 'May last they became engaged. He visited her home a good deal, with the approval of her parents. The accused was aware of her relations with' the deceased, but he continued to write letters to her. These letters she answered,, telling him that she mis engaged ' t,o 1 Blakeway, and she told him not to come to see her. When the deceased was later stationed at Ot-aki, she went to sec him on Snmbv, Decke following. The .accused met Blakeway, and they spoke together. Decke returned home, and hi wrote her a letter that night, stating: “I’ll stop him. even if it is the last- thing I do! So may God help me !" She sent this letter to Blakeway. A clay or two later, Decke came out to 'see her. He met her in the passage. He shook her, saying that he would ‘‘not allow me to marry Blakeway.” 'He said he was going to have it out with Blakeway. Patrick Meehan, the father of the previous witness said that he had at firstno objection to Decke seeing his daughter, but later lie had told him that he was not wanted. Witness approved of
