N.Z. ELECTIONS

DATE NOT YET ANNOUNCED (By Telegraph—Per Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 9. Although the session of Parliament cannot possibly last more than two or three more sitting days, the Prime Minister, tlie Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, has as yet made no announcement of the date upon which the General Election will he held. The delay in announcing the plans of the Government is no doubt caused partly by the difficulty which the Reform Party and the United Party are known to be experiencing in various electorates in the allocation of seats for Coalition candidates. There is no reason to believe, however, Quit the date previously mentioned (December 2nd) will he changed, as members of the Cabinet feel- that a short, brisk campaign would be more satisfactory than bringing the election date closer to Christmas. Moreover, the task of the Coalition is really just beginning, and if the Government receive the mandate of the people, as it expects to do, New Year will see Cabinet applied energetically to further efforts toward economic reconstruction Preparations will probably have to be made for a short session of Parliament early in the year. The House may rise on Tuesday night: but there is a possibilty that the Royal assent to prorogation, will not be available until Wednesday, upon the return of his Excellency the Gevernor-General, Lord Bledisloe, from the South.
