' LABOUR’S POSITION. BACK TO ROCK BOTTOM. (United Press Association. —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. ) LONDON, November 3. Following the Parliamentary debacle of Labour who sustained the heaviest defeat in the municipal elections ever known, the “Star” in u .eader says: “Labour is back to rockbottom for the first time since the war.”
The “Evening News” declares that the “bubble of Socialist prestige” was pricked by voters hastening to rid themselves of the Government by an incubus. If Socialism, latterly sampled is a true and authentic brand, the longer it stays hit the better, /
“The Local Authorities Debt amounted to £1,000,000,000, or one seventh of the total national debt. The ratepayers provide £'200,000,000 annually apart from revenue from municipal undertakings, .vet the local authorities continue to borrow £125,000,000 annually,” says the Yorkshire “Observer.”
LABOUR PARTY. LONDON, November 3. The Parliamentary Labour Party invited Mr A. Henderson to continue the leadership of the Labour Party and elected Mr Lansbury. Chairman, Mr Atlee vice-Chairman and Mr Charles Edwards, Chief Whip of the Parliamentary Party. Messrs. Henderson, Benn. Lees Smith, and Lord Snell are continuing to represent the Labour Party at the Round Table Conference. NATIONAL LIBERAL LEADER. LONDON, November 3. Sir John Simon has been elected leader of the National Liberal group in the Commons.
