THOUGHTS OF THE TIMES.

MEMBERS WORKING. One thing that has been made abundantly plain during the past week is that the Parliamentary machine can work at high pressure if members feel so disposed, and the extraordinary amount of work through which the House- of Representatives has rushed within the space of a few days ha-s left- political observers more convinced than ever that too much time is wasted every year in -dragging out the sessions unnecessarily. The prospect of an early’* election has made members keen to get back to the electorates, and the result has been that more work has been done in a week than during the whole of the preceding four months. —Parliamentary Reported.
