CHEAPER FARES

INCREASE IN RAILWAY PASSENGERS. (By Telegraph—ter Press Association) AUCKLAND, October 31. The reduction cf the railway fares has been followed in Auckland district bv a. remarkable increase in the passenger traffic. In the last week of the old lares 10,482 tickets were issued in Auckland. The number has since rapidly increased, and last week was 27,836. Every part, of tho system shows an increase, but it is greatest in the suburban area. It is understood that the increase in revenue is not as great as the figures would suggest, one reason being the greater usp of workers’ iveekly and other cheap tickets.
