CRICKET
SOUTH AFRICAN TOUR.
AGAINST SOUTH AUSTRALIA
VISITOR’S FAIR BATTING
(Australian Press Association.)
ADELAIDE, November 2
For the cricket match to-day - the weather and wicket were ideal. South Africa’s- position was not improved by the losing of four wickets for eight runs in .the first half hour. Christy again showed himseif a reliable and capable batsman. -Cameron and Balaskas were not affected by Grimmett's subtleties, and they saved an imminent crash. Otmeroir j played, a forceful game, hitting six fours, and displaying a versatile repertoire of shots. Balaskas was top scorer with a valuable 61. 'He hit six fours in unorthodox fashion. The score at the tea adjournment was 7 for 234.
Richardson made frequent bowling changes, which were not effective against Vincent and McMillan, both of whom were playing vigorously, they frustrating the a,ert field-.ng" and collaring the bowling. t . ... Carlton brought about a separation by getting Vincent caught at extra cover.
McMillan, in the next over, was smartly caught and bowled by Starr, who was tlie seventh bowler tried. Both retiring -batsmen played grand innings, Each bit four fours. MeM ilan batted for ,164 minutes. Starr also clean bowled Quinn. The innings, which dosed for 293, lasted 384 minutes. At stumps, South Australia had scored nine runs for no wickets. ■Scores:— SOUTH AFRICA.—First •'lnnings. Mitchell, l.b.w. h Grimmett ...
