MONDAY, NOVEMBER 2nd. 2YA’s programme this evening will include a short recital of Russian music by that accomplished pianist, Mr Ernest Jenner, and Miss Hilda Chudley (contralto). Mr Jenner will play “Theme and Variations’’ by Glazounov, a most delightful work, and Miss Hilda Chudley will sing three beautiful songs by Rachmaninoff. Mrs B. B. Wood (mezzocontralto) and Miss Monica Maifroy (soprano)’ wifi sing two duets, and will also be heard :iri solo numbers. Mr ‘Ernest Glading will sing a group of' baiitone songs. The numbers by the Orchestrina will include a Hungarian Dance by Dvorak', and “Les Deux Pierrots” by Drigo. Miss Kathleen Bond (contralto), Miss Elsie D. Rutter -(soprano), Mr Leslie Stewart (baritone)-and Mr James Laurenson (humorous reciter) will be associated with Derry’s Military Band (conductor J. ’Scott) and the Christchurch Broadcasting Trio in providing the programme for 3YA. Dr iE. N. Merrington, Principal of Knox College, Dunedin, will be the lecturer on 4YA’s International Programme this evening. Subject: “Public Opinion on International Affairs.” Silent day at IYA.
TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 3rd. At IYA this evening at 7.40, under ■the auspices of the W.E.A., the ReV. W? Constable will continue his series of talks' at IYA on “George Bernard ■Shaw.” The speaker on lYA’s International Programme will be Professor : H. Belshaw, Professor of Economics at the Auckland University College, whose 1 subject will be “International Economic Co-operation as a Factor in World Prosperity.” ' 2YA’s studio - concert will be of the 'popular type. Mr Terence O’Brien j(tenor) wilL delight listeners with four Irish songs:' "Then You’ll Remember •Me,” “Believe Me if all Those Endear-’ ing Yourig Oharms,” “Killarney” “Mother Machree.” Miss Muriel Johns will be heitrd - in songs at the piano. Perce and ■Les (novelty piano duo), newcomers to 2YA, will contribute snappy numbers. A feature of ,the programme will be a one-act play entitled. “The Signal,” written by Helen Gordon. This will be produced'by Mr Victor S. Lloyd, and should prove of great interest to listeners. This play was awarded Ithe first prize in' a recent “Radio Record” competition. The 'Salon 'Orchestra will supply the incidental music and selected electrical recordings will be included in ,the programme. A Community dance on the green will be introduced into Christchurch ■ this evening, and - 33^A will carry out , a broadcast.
What should prove a thoroughly popular programme' with” “highbrows’ -and :“lowbrows” al'.ke, will be presented from 4YA,‘when the’Kaikorai Band, supported by the quartet known as the Majors, •will conve before-the microphone. The /Majors’ will delight the ear in quartettes from “The Arcadians.” Miss Gwenda ■Burt, iin “The'Girl with a Brogue,” and j Miss’ Freda ’Elmos, in “Light is My ’.Heart;” should both prove very acceptable. In addition, Mr D. E, Dali, elocutionist, will give several humorous , selections,- one' by Dickens and two by Jerome K. Jerome. /
