SOUTH WESTLAND NOTES

' A number of .visitors passed south to spend the Labour week end at the Glaciers, At both Franz Josef and Fox, parties .enjoyed jfetf„ hours’ on* the’JiceT’ The "weather was dull, but fine, f and the outing would be much enjoyed.

Last week, Mr Jojhnston, District Engineer, inspected the now routs for the Waitaha South Bank, Road. The line has been back ito avoid river ' erosion. Construction work is expected to be put ini hand this week,, where a party of 25 men from the Buffer Gorge railway works will be camped adjacent to the work, and as the road line is level, good progress should be made. .

The men sent to the road improvement works further south, now have their camps established, and work is proceeding steadily this. week. The attention being paid to. the Waiho Weheka road will be appreciated by motorists jn tlie coming season. The store cattle sale at Wataroadast Thursday was largely to the advantage of the buyer. Th e supply was rather more than the demand, which suggests that produce from the southern district- is increasing steadily. The bulk of the stock offered for sale came' a very long distance, and it was not encouraging to strike a depressed market. There is stiff considerable stock to come from the south—mainly for the Arahura markejt.
