AMPHIBIAN TANK
THE LATEST WEAPON. A REMARKABLE INVENTION. United Press Association.— By Eleotru Telegraph.—Copyright. 1 LONDON, October 28. An amphibious tank of new and startling design, which would have saved many lives at the Gallipoli landing and enabled far greater progress to be made, is the invention of Vickers Armstrong, says the military correspondent of “The Times.” At present the principle is only applied to a two-man tank, but is adaptable to larger types. It weighs two and three-quarter tons, lias a road speed of forty miles and hour,, and is capable of cross-country performances equal to those of a modern light tank. It can approach water at speed, when it is driven by a propeller and steered by a rudder. It is able to travel through water at six miles an hour, and remain under for long periods without ventilation troubles. The amphibian will ho most useful for clearing bridgeheads am 1 assisting retreats.
